2026 STEM Summer Intensives
July 12–16: Engineering Systems: Robotics + AI Intensive
Ages 11–14
Students design, program, and test intelligent robotic systems using real sensors and structured engineering challenges.
Throughout the week, students work through progressively more complex robotics tasks, building systems that collect data, interpret inputs, and respond with programmed logic. The focus is on understanding how hardware, software, and AI-assisted tools interact within modern robotics systems.
Students develop experience in:
• Sensor-based decision making
• Structured coding in robotics systems
• Debugging and iteration skills
• Team-based engineering problem solving
By the end of the week, students gain a clearer understanding of how intelligent robotic systems are designed, tested, and improved.
July 19–23: Intelligent Flight Systems: Drones + AI Intensive
Ages 11–14
Students program intelligent flight systems and explore how AI concepts apply to aerial robotics.
Through structured challenges, students learn how drones interpret commands, maintain stability, and execute controlled movement. The week introduces the foundations of autonomous flight and how data and logic shape drone behavior.
Students gain experience in:
• Flight control logic
• Autonomous navigation concepts
• Python-based drone programming
• Applied AI tools for analysis and decision-making
By the end of the week, students move beyond simply flying drones to understanding the systems that power intelligent flight.
What Campers Will Do
Robotics + AI
• Design and program sensor-driven robotic systems that respond to real-world inputs
• Develop structured logic that powers intelligent machines and automated systems
• Use AI-assisted tools to refine coding, testing, and debugging workflows
• Tackle guided engineering challenges inspired by real robotics applications
Students gain early exposure to how modern robotic systems collect data, interpret signals, and act on programmed logic.
Drones + AI
• Program drone movement and navigation through structured flight control logic
• Explore the foundations of autonomous flight and intelligent aerial systems
• Analyze flight data and refine performance through iterative testing
• Use AI tools to analyze flight behavior and improve drone programming
What Makes This Program Different
University Setting
Held on the campus of New York Institute of Technology, providing an academic environment that supports focused learning.
Real Engineering Tools
Students work with robotics platforms and drone systems used in structured STEM programs, not toy-based kits.
Meaningful AI Integration
AI is implemented through applied tools and structured problem-solving, not just discussed as a trend.
Intentionally Capped Cohorts
Cohorts are intentionally capped to preserve instructional depth and individualized attention.
Created by an Award-Winning Professor
Our camps are developed by Dr. Pramod Abichandani, Associate Professor at NJIT and Director of the Robotics and Data Lab (RADLab), with over $5M in NSF-funded research focused on AI and robotics education. As the founder of LocoRobo, Dr. Abichandani brings university-level innovation into K–12 classrooms.
LocoRobo has been a proud partner of NYC schools since 2017, supporting teachers and students across boroughs with hands-on robotics, drone, and AI solutions.
Our camps are led by NYC school district educators who bring classroom expertise, tech experience, and a passion for student success to every session.
Outside NYC? We’ve Got You Covered.
Can’t attend in person? Schools across the country can host their own LocoRobo STEM Camps. With ready-to-go kits, structured curriculum, and virtual training, it is easy to bring the LocoRobo experience anywhere.
